Some good friends of ours announced that they were having a little girl! Is there any reason more wonderful to make a quilt? So, I set out to the quilt store to find the just right fabric and I stumbled upon the Bunny Tales Soft Book Panel and matching Center Quilt Panel by Studio E Fabrics! I really loved the two together and decided that they should be!!
So, I purchased one center panel, two soft book panels to border it, some beautifully corresponding arabesque green fabric from Quilting Treasures for the sashing and binding, and some Bunny Tales fabric for the exterior border and quilt backing to tie it all together.
Then, I went home and played with the layout until I got it to all come together smoothly. I love the look of a traditionally-sized baby quilt, but I really wanted to give her something she could love and use for a long time. Something her parents could lay on the floor and let her play on… something with room to grow into… a “lovey” big enough to wear completely out! So, I really gave some width to the exterior borders — the final dimensions of the quilt measuring 62″ x 78.” A perfect lap-size quilt!
When I returned to the shop to have it put on the longarm to be quilted, the ladies at the shop LOVED it! And I think little Miss Ruby did, too!
We sent it to her with the following sentiment:
This quilt is made of cloth and thread
To place upon your little bed.
It’s not an heirloom just to keep,
But to lay upon, as you count sheep.
Or perhaps the floor’s the perfect place
For a doll and teddy picnic space.
This quilt can be anything you dream,
From Superwoman’s cape, to the robe of a Queen!
Pretend it’s a raft adrift at sea,
Or just cuddle up and watch TV.
So use it up and wear it out…
I promise I won’t yell or pout.
Just tell me when its days are through,
And I’ll make another, just for you!
This quilt was designed and made especially for you!
I made a second quilt top that is currently on display (and available for purchase) at The Cotton Cupboard in Lakeway, Texas and the pattern is now available for purchase!! You can find copies of the Bunny Tales Quilt Pattern in select stores and in my online shop.
